Meet Jo Hayter

For the past six years, I have recorded every dream, turned them into collages, and listened until they merged with daily life.

Everything I now offer is built on lived practice, a gradual return to nervous system balance through observation, creativity, and relational regulation.

But I wasn’t always this way.

For decades, movement protected me from what stillness might expose: overwhelm, shame, helplessness, old pain of not witnessing to my current state.

Leaping created momentum.
Momentum drowned out vulnerability.
Drift disguised fear.

Then I built spaces for catharsis. I worked hard. I searched deeply.

Then something radical happened.

Stillness stopped feeling dangerous.

My body flared and settled.
My mind spiraled and released.
Grief surfaced and moved through

and I did not fragment or collapse or disappear.

And slowly, new evidence accumulated:

I could remain.

When stillness is safe, movement becomes choice.
When stillness is safe, ambition becomes clean.
When stillness is safe, roots become possible.

The shift was subtle, no fireworks or drama., just this:

I am no longer afraid of my nervous system,

But the deepest shift did not come from catharsis work, or calming my nervous system.

It came from understanding it.

What I had experienced as pathology: panic, overwhelm, intensity, and numbness,

began to make sense as nervous system intelligence: protective, adaptive, precise.

Nothing was malfunctioning.

Something had been protecting me.

It was not about fixing what is wrong.

but discovering that perhaps nothing is.

The moment doubt reduced is not when symptoms disappeared. It is when I understood them as intelligence. That is the authority behind this work.

That understanding removed years of worry about my health, about my capacity, about whether I was enough.

If you recognize yourself in this, perhaps you to, are reorganizing.

The work I offer now:

1: Learning to Stay With What You Feel - the book and Creative Movement Therapy™ Retreats

2: When What You Feel Has No Name - the book and program Program

3: Voice of the Night Dream Listening

4: Earning Without Burning - the book

5: The Body Passport - the book

6: The Journal Circle - a memership community

turned out to be a way of relational regulation emerging from that reorganization.
