‘I Meet No-One but Me’ doesn't mean other people aren't real or that everything they do is our projection. It means that in every encounter, I also meet my own history, expectations, longings, assumptions, tenderness, defences, preferences and unfinished places. This IS Journal Therapy: Participating in Life. Why would I subscribe? Here is Journal Therapy occurring in participation. You're not sitting down to work on yourself. You went to the supermarket. You read the newspaper. You had coffee with somebody. You watched something on television. Your husband said something. You stood in a queue. Someone annoyed you on Facebook. And life handed you a little piece of information about yourself. To receive one ordinary moment from another person's life that might help you notice something in your own. I am not sharing: Here is what I learned, therefore here is what you should learn. I’m sharing: This happened. I noticed my reaction. I stayed curious about why it had caught me. And this is what became visible. You are free to recognise yourself, or not. There is no demand for introspection and no requirement to turn every irritation into personal growth. Sometimes you might think, Oh goodness, I do that too. That's contact.
